I requested this system as a gift based on the positive reviews in this space. Unfortunately, the CD player would not work, and now I’m wary of the Philips brand. Amazon makes the return process easy, which I appreciate. But next time I think I’ll go with Sony.

Was very disappointed to see this exact item at a local retailer for $50 less than what I paid for it not quite 30 days after I purchased it.

I enjoyed this stereo well enough for about the first year. Sound quality was OK and it had a lot of features. Ease of use isn’t great, but that’s no big issue. But after just over a year, the display broke. Now, with all the different features and modes of play, you absolutely need the display to be working. Without the display, the unit becomes almost unusable. For instance, to play a CD, you have to select the CD mode. The only way to know when you’ve gotten to CD mode is the display. All the different settings, for all the features, are on a cycle. You don’t simply select CD; instead you cycle through until you get to the correct setting. With no display, you are lost.

Bottom line, after just over a year (warranty expiration), this thing breaks.

Great little unit. Usually I’m the 1st to gripe over “preset EQ Curves” & no parametric EQ knobs (at the very least), but this unit sounds so darn good without ‘em! Really! I own a couple vintage stereos, a nicer newer Sony receiver for the TV to go thru, and a pro P.A. I got in the basement for band rehearsals (a 3 way w/ JBL’s, a Crewin Vega 18″ sub; all utilizing the DBX Driverack p.a. processor), so you could say I spend alotta time doing the “critical listening” thang. IMO, for a bedside radio/I-dock/CD/USB device, this lil baby blows the competition away. Fergit the other reviews here that trash this gem (it broke after the warranty? y’don’t like the way the CD tracks?), hey!? Whatarey’gonnado? It’s an imperfect world. Even $100k dollar cars occassionaly end up lemons, right off the assembly line! It happens to everything about 1 out of 1000 times. Right? But for a “wake me up” alarm or just a “music fer the wife & I” when she finally decides to give me some, I love this little thing. Best of all: I got it for $11 on ebay, plus $15 shipping (score!). Thought I was gonna hate it; ended up loving it. You will too…

This thing is awful. Sounds terrible, both CDs and iPod. Shockingly so. At first I thought I had set it up wrong somehow, but no.

We did a side-by-side test with my kid’s $20 CD box (which is 3 years old, by the way) and the boom box won, hands down. Music from this thing sounds canned, no dynamic range, no depth, like an AM radio almost. The optional bass boost only amplifies the suck.

    [...].

I don’t know any executives who would settle for a product so lousy. They should call it Micro Sound.

Don’t waste your time or money on this junk.
